The last day to submit a fall CPT application is Sept 25th by 5:00 PM.
Original end date listed on the SCAI CPT application (not the CPT I-20)
New end date
Academic justification for the extension
The new end date cannot be later than the last day for fall CPT semester begins (Jan 11, 2026) for continuing students, or later than the last day of finals for graduating students (Dec 13th.).
Students must have a valid academic justification for the extension. Extending CPT for reasons relating to pay or employer need will are not acceptable.
It is important to save the email approval from SCAI Advising in case questions arise in the future.
All students approved for a CPT extension should check that the new end date falls within the end date listed on the I-20.
Generally, non-thesis master's students need approval from SCAI Advising (scai.grad.cpt@asu.edu) only, and do not also need to email ISSC.
Thesis/dissertation students will typically need an updated I-20 and should also email issc.employment@asu.edu with the proof of approval of the extension from SCAI Advising. Then ISSC will work to issue an updated I-20. It is important for students to receive the I-20 extension before proceeding to work beyond the original end date.
