Extension Requests

For Summer 2025 CPT extension requests, students must send an email scai.grad.cpt@asu.edu with the following information, no later than August 1, 2025. The subject line should read "extension request".

• Original end date listed on the SCAI CPT application (not the CPT I-20)

• New end date

• Academic justification for the extension

Important:

• The new end date cannot be later than the day before the Summer 2025 semester begins (May 18, 2025) for continuing students, or later than the last day of finals (May 10) for graduating students.

• Students must have a valid academic justification for the extension.  Extending CPT for reasons relating to pay or employer need will are not acceptable.

• All non-thesis master's Students should email SCAI Advising at scai.grad.cpt@asu.edu only.  Students do not also need to email ISSC. It is important to save the email approval from SCAI Advising in case questions arise in the future.

• For thesis/dissertation students that will need an updated I-20, students can email issc.employment@asu.edu  with the proof of approval of the extension from SCAI Advising. Then ISSC will work to issue an updated I-20.  It is important for students to receive the I-20 extension before proceeding to work beyond the original end date.
