This lab investigated migration to Germany and the United States with a focus on art as a means of cultural expression, community building and justice, and through comparative emphasis on the urban centers of Phoenix and Berlin. We discussed major forces that have shaped migration and examine central questions of migrant justice and social change that help us understand human movement.
The lab focused on Berlin and Phoenix as cities with large and diverse immigrant populations and long histories of migration or emigration. Collaborative workshop projects in Phoenix, Arizona and a Global Intensive Experience in Berlin, Germany, allowed students to interact with local and migrant communities. You can find an overview over the projects here on this site.
