Getting started with H5P usage

Start by visiting H5P.org and exploring the full library of 50+ interactive content types. These range from simple quizzes and flashcards to more complex tools like interactive videos, branching scenarios, and course presentations. Each content type comes with demos and tutorials, so you can see examples of how they work before you try creating your own. As you browse, think about your learning goals: Do you want to test knowledge, encourage reflection, or simulate real-life decision-making? Matching the right activity type to your objectives will set a strong foundation 

H5P does not run as a standalone app—you need to host it on a platform. The most common options are:

• Moodle or Canvas (LMS): Best for schools and universities that want to track student performance.

• WordPress or Drupal: Great for educators or trainers building their own websites or independent learning hubs.

• H5P.com (paid service): A cloud option for organizations without LMS/website infrastructure.
  When choosing a platform, consider your learners’ access (e.g., mobile use), reporting needs, and whether you need advanced features like gradebook integration.

Once you’ve chosen your platform, select an activity type and begin building. For example, you might start with an Interactive Video by uploading a short clip and embedding quiz questions, reflection prompts, or clickable hotspots. Preview your content often, and put yourself in the learner’s shoes to test usability and flow..

After you create your H5P activity, it can be embedded almost anywhere. You can:

• Share the embed code or link on a Google Site, blog, or even a social media page.

One of the biggest strengths of H5P is the ability to gather feedback and track engagement. If you use an LMS, learner scores and activity completion can be automatically recorded in the gradebook. Beyond scores, look at where learners struggled. Did many get stuck on one quiz item or drop off halfway through a video? Use this data to refine your activities, adjust content difficulty, or add scaffolding. You can also collect direct feedback from learners to make improvements.
