The Future of Power Supply

"One video we watched explained the development and use of a special sustainable solar cell, invented in 1991, that could power electrical grids. Videos often emphasized the important relationship green technology has with the development of a sustainable future for people and planet. These solutions are cross-temporal: they showcase previous advancements, such as the aforementioned solar cell, that can be utilized to create future solutions."

Future Megacities

"The pavilion proposed a problem that needs solving: the presence of high levels of waste and greenhouse gasses created in megacities due to increased production and population. Germany projects there to be megacities on at least five continents and, throughout the campus, proposed development solutions. These developmental solutions are plural, as they imagine future megacities in Europe, North America, and the Global South."

Mycelium-Composite

"One of the proposed alternative materials was a mycelium-composite, an example of relational technology that connects human to planet through a solution from the more-than-human world."

Graduation

"At the end of our journey through Campus Germany, we participated in an interactive and immersive “graduation” ceremony unlike any other. With a group of approximately thirty other visitors, we entered an auditorium and sat on swings that hung from the ceiling. After settling in, our graduation ceremony began: the lights switched off, a dozen video screens turned on, and orbs of light descended from above. As a part of the ceremony, two narrators appeared on a central video screen and spoke while we were taken through the universe and back to planet earth. We learned of our voting results–the majority voted for sustainability, responsibility, and creating “a world worth living in.” To conclude the ceremony, our seats started to move: we literally swung forward, while figuratively swinging into the future world we would create."
