Directions: First, watch the TED Talk below in order to understand the concept of white space and our culture's unhealthy focus on staying busy.
Sara Cameron defines White Space as the little moments between tasks that allow activities to complement one another rather than compete with one another. What is YOUR kind of White Space?
Now, go to the Google Doc and complete the following activity. You'll share and discuss this with your coach in this week's Zoom meeting:
Do you consider yourself a mutitasker? Have you considered the perspective that effective mutitasking isn't actually possible?
Directions: First, click here to read an article that explains multitasking as a myth.
Think about how the article affects your view of multitasking. Whether or not you're aware of it, we all tend to try to multitask. Think of few activities you tend to multitask with in your job, home, or social environment. Remember the earlier TED Talk mentioned that being busy is a choice.
Now, challenge yourself to try shifting to the single tasking mentioned in the article. Focus on one project or activity at a time, then switch to the next when you're finished. Complete the chart on the Google Doc to outline one project or activity from your day or week to use the single task method. Record your observations and results on the Google Doc.
Directions: Use the list below to explore various time management apps. Choose one app from the list below (or find your own) to download and try for one week. Ensure to apply the white space concept of this unit to how you utilize the app. Be prepared to use the app for one full week and to discuss your chosen app with your Success Coach in this week's meeting (see Task 3 on the Google Doc).
