EdPlus oversees every aspect of ASUO courses, ensuring smooth operations and a seamless learning experience for students. Through your Portfolio Manager, you will work with the EdPlus Digital Learning (EDL) team to develop, publish, and maintain ASU online courses. This team is an integral part of course management and supports the success of ASUO instructors and faculty. To learn more about the EDL team, click here.
iCourses are asynchronous online courses that are offered exclusively to campus immersion students.
oCourses are asynchronous online courses that are part of a fully online degree program, offered exclusively to online students.
Combined Courses can occur when there is a need for both iCourse and oCourse versions of a class. Combined courses put these two types of students into one Canvas shell, streamlining the management process for the instructor.
Benefits of combining an iCourse and oCourse:
Instructors can manage all classwork, announcements, due dates, and students in one Canvas shell, eliminating the need to duplicate efforts.
Instructors get access to ASUO resources like curricular support, studio and media resources, tools like Yellowdig and Voicethread, and more.
Instructors have the ability to allow students in online and campus immersion sections to interact (ex. via discussion boards) or to keep them separate, allowing for more flexibility.

Course List Document: When an ASUO program is being launched, your unit's PM sends a Google Doc where the program's courses are added, including new ones that need to be put online.
Kuali Submission: Your unit submits a form in Kuali requesting approval for their courses during the launch process.
Kuali Decision: EdPlus leadership and staff approve courses associated with a program launch, submitting the decision through Kuali.
Course development: If approved, the course(s) can go into development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is sent to the instructor(s) outlining the process and policies. Once signed, the instructor will work with the IDNM team to develop the new course, typically about six months before a program launches.
Kuali Submission: Your unit submits an oCourse request in Kuali to start the process of adding a new course to an existing online program. You can also contact your PM for guidance during this process.
Dean approval: On a bi-monthly basis, new courses are reviewed and approved by EdPlus leadership.
Approval documentation: The progress of the new oCourse request is tracked in the program's Course List Google Doc.
Kuali Decision: Once EdPlus leadership makes a decision about the requested course, it is posted to Kuali for your unit.
Course development: If approved, the course(s) can go into development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is sent to the instructor(s) outlining the process and policies. Once signed, the instructor will work with the IDNM team to develop the new course.
When courses are developed with EdPlus, the unit is compensated and pays out the course instructor(s) based on their internal policies. The table below outlines current compensation rates. The amount ultimately paid to the instructor will differ depending on the number of instructors involved in development, unit processes, etc.
If your unit is pursuing General Studies Gold designation, please follow the Provost process for approval. Once approved, please connect with your APM and EdPlus will review for oCourse development.
