Unblurred on Penn Avenue in Garfield is Pittsburgh’s longest-running monthly arts crawl. Assemble regularly participates by hosting a series of gallery exhibitions designed to act as a springboard for emerging artists’ careers. During summer months—when exhibitions regularly bring in over 150 visitors—Assemble hosts gallery artists as Saturday Crafternoon teachers.
2022 Unblurred artists included Pittsburgh-based artist Noa Mim—who explores theories of the psyche, identity and social justice through multimedia work including photography and sculpting—and Kuwame “Kwam” Kinsel, a Hill District native and self-taught artist with roots in hip hop and street arts.

Other artists included teens from our Hack the Future program described above, and Marlon Eazywider, who creates mixed media mosaics and works as an educator at many Pittsburgh museums including The Andy Warhol Museum and The Mattress Factory.
Khadijat Yussuff, Assemble’s Monthly Programs Coordinator, calls Unblurred a “stepping stone” for artists’ careers, as well as an open community space. “I think the Community also appreciates… knowing that regardless of what's going on for whatever first Fridays, there will always be a place where they can grab some snacks or grab some drinks, or, you know, just chill out and make something... I definitely appreciate Assemble prioritizing the community aspect of First Fridays.”
