Assemble hosted a wide range of onsite programs throughout 2022, from afterschool STEAM sessions to 21+ adult learning workshops.
Our on-site programs offer youth a range of ways to engage with STEAM: Weekly Saturday Crafternoons feature guest expert artists, makers, and technologists who lead youth ages 5 to 11 through hands-on programs.
Assemble Afterschool–for kids in grades 1 to 9–creates space for participants to learn through making, test out wild ideas, and build a better future. These sessions provide hands-on activities and often feature special visits from local STEAM experts.
Girls Maker Night is dedicated to self-identifying girls, trans, and non-binary students in grades 5 to 9 and provides a space for participants to dream up creative inventions together.
Assemble offered fewer total program hours than during the previous year. This was largely the result of sunsetting virtual versions of our programs that had been a lifeline to Assemblers during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. In re-engaging in-person, we wanted to not “burn up on re-entry” and intentionally safely grow our programs, prioritizing the health of our youth, staff, and community. Despite the reduction in programming hours, programming attendance grew at most programs, and in nearly all on-site programs from 2021 to 2022. Saturday Crafternoon attendance grew by 254%, and day camps offered during school holidays like spring break saw 179% more attendance compared to 2021.

While we saw overall teen participation drop during 2022 (more in the Assemblers section), our social justice program Hack The Future for students in grades 9 to 12 saw attendance growth of 190%. This program pays high school students to learn the latest in technologies, untold histories, LGBTQIA+ issues, social justice issues, leadership, and more.
Assemble programming for adults also experienced dramatic participation growth in 2022, with our 21+ Nights, hosted both onsite at Assemble and nearby venue Two Frays, seeing nearly five times as many participants than the previous year (+392%). Our all-ages Learning Parties—themed events featuring learning stations and local guest experts—also grew, with 80% more attendees than the previous year.
