Our social group provides a safe, supportive space to develop and increase emotional awareness and regulation, healhty relationship skills, self-advocacy, self-care and problem-solving abilities.
THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP
We do explore the same topics (and more), yet our lens is not that ND folk are lacking or deficient and need to learn to conform or mask. Our perspective is one of empowerment; where we understand our own needs and boundaries, are able to communicate them, and realize what alistic folk mean when they interact. This is about knowledge, support and self-awareness- not about being neurotypical appearing.
We can talk, listen, and watch- but nothing tops actual experience when it comes to learning to communicate, respect boundaries and self-advocate. Our practice groups range from a conversation group to one that explores flirting, consent, body language and dating practice.
There are no skills tests or expectations for comformity. All folk are encouraged to participate, and we give one another feedback as to what felt safe and respectful, what we need to work on.
We have cheat sheets to use to start off, and the group rules are no making fun of others, no name calling, and coming to the meeting with the intent of learning and supporting others.
Often our neurodivergent folk are left out of public sex education, or the sex education they access is overly vague, judgemental or otherwise lacking in scientific, comprehensive, on point information.
Our ND EMPOWER! sex education programming includes basic sex education (anatomy, reproduction, sexual health and harm reduction); intermediate sex education (gender and sex, arousal and consent, sexual and body diversity) and advanced sex education (sex conversations, sti testing how to's, dating, intercourse, outercourse with partners and solo; alternative sexual activities and community safety).
We also offer topical meetings:
Gender and Sexuality
LGBTQIA2S++
Puberty and Me
Condoms and Dams
Hygeine and Grooming
Internet Safety
Internet Safety Advanced
My Body, Your Body
Friend or Foe
Parents, we got you! Our monthly support circle engages in actively supporting the wellbeing and skill building of parents and caregivers!
As with all of EMPOWER! programs we want to ensure that everyone has the tools they need to make informed choices and advocate for themselves.
And hey, most of us parents share some of the challenges our ND youth face, genetics being what they are :)
Doing homework is more than just sitting down and doing it! Join the club to et support in scheduling your assignments, breaking them down into steps, and even support for being accountable!
Being neurodivergent can make homework challenging. Often we are procastinators, time-blind, and can even struggle to just start.
Angel is here to help!
As a neurodivergent indidvidual, Angel struggled through school themself-then they were taught some specific skills to accommodate executive functioining challenges! Angel will support you through your own homework challenges, and help you to build these skills for yourself!
