THE CORE
The core of the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) consists of three interconnected components: the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). These elements are central to the IBDP, aiming to foster critical thinking, independent research skills, and personal growth alongside academic subjects, making it a holistic educational experience.
GROUP 1: LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
This group focuses on a student's native or strongest language, aiming to develop literary analysis, critical thinking, and strong oral and written expression skills through the study of texts from various cultures and time periods.
GROUP 2: LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
Language Acquisition consists of subjects that focus on learning a second language to develop communicative skills and cultural understanding.
GROUP 3: INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETIES
Group 3 explores human behaviour and the economic, social, and physical environments of the world. Students must choose one course from this group, and it focuses on developing an understanding of how societies and institutions have developed and how they are affected by human activities and global issues.
GROUP 4: SCIENCES
Group 4 is a subject group in the IB program focused on the study of sciences. For Group 4, students must choose a minimum of one, and maximum of 2 subjects. The subjects are designed to cultivate scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and an understanding of scientific principles.
GROUP 5: MATHEMATICS
Students in Group 5 choose one of two mathematics courses, either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, available at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). These courses are designed to cater to different mathematical interests and skill levels, from those pursuing careers in math-heavy fields to those who prefer a practical, real-world application focus.
GROUP 6: THE ARTS
Group 6 of the IB Diploma Programme is "The Arts" and includes the subject of Visual Arts. The group 6 subjects help students understand the dynamic and changing nature of the arts, exploring their diversity across time, place and culture.
