Hand Sewing, Machine Sewing, Textile Dyeing
Throughout the year, students will learn an assortment of mending by hand, machine sewing and dyeing techniques and will build their own sample book for future reference and development. We will start by learning the basics of how to use a needle and thread, with a focus on mending our own clothes. Students will also learn how to use a sewing machine and have the opportunity to work on a project that interests them with the support of ASM staff and intern.
Along the way, we will take time for discussions about the fashion industry today and the role we all can play in making it more sustainable. We will end the year learning about different dyeing techniques culminating in the #MadeByMe project, for which students will create their own fabrics and product designs.
