Joanne Walker Social Studies HOD-IB Business Teacher - ASA Sponsor
Joanne loves the idea about encouraging students to become more conscious about their purchasing habits and sustainability. Fashion is a fun way to explore this and by learning the skills of sewing, mending, and design we can look at ways we can consume less and be more creative.
Joanne first taught home economics with units around sewing in 2012, this is where her passion/ hobby began. Joanne is excited to see this program grow and further connect to STEAM, service learning and the CAS program requirements.
Anna Lisa McBride Textile design student - ASM Intern
Anna Lisa wants us to rethink the fashion industry and our role in it. The fashion industry is thought to be the second-largest polluter in the world and, Anna Lisa says, we all have a relationship to fashion. Through the ASAs and other ASM community workshops, she would like to support the ASM community with a better understanding of the issues facing our fashion, apparel and textile industries, as well as share and discuss ideas to help us all take part in the solution.
Anna Lisa started her career in public relations and advertising before moving to the brand licensing industry. She loves design and sewing and is currently studying for a second bachelor’s degree in textile design and communication. Her involvement in, and enthusiasm for, this program started with her ASM TEDxYouth talk in 2022 and is part of her internship requirement for her current university studies in Copenhagen, Denmark.
