Course Description

Students will practice acting techniques and apply those techniques through performance. Students will direct, rehearse, and perform various projects throughout the semester for a variety of audiences. They will learn to work together as an ensemble to build their stories and scenes. They will explore and strengthen their imaginations through advanced improv and the creation of original characters. With more performance experience, students will develop greater confidence in themselves, their creative abilities, and their presentational skills.

Course Objectives

  • To develop a better understanding of vocabulary, story, and expression by reading aloud
  • To better understand our relationship with ourselves and our lives through the struggles of other characters
  • To become more compassionate, empathetic humans by broadening our perspective of existence
  • To connect spoken text and physical action to emotion, both in ways the actor expresses it and the audience receives it.
  • To learn the basics of vocal articulation and breath support
  • To communicate ideas effectively to other students in the room
  • To create whole, multi dimensional characters
  • To find ways to solve creative problems that have no definitive answer.
  • To have as much fun as possible
