Sundial Template

Here is a template for a Sundial. The original author is Anton Vamplew.

It can give a rough estimate of time whenever the Sun is out. The gnomon (pointer) needs to be pointing toward North. A compass, or compass app on your phone, will show where North is. Where we live in Eastern Missouri, magnetic declimation is small, so magnetic North is very close to true North.

Remember that during Daylight Savings Time, the Sundial will be one hour off. For example, the Sundail will show it is 1:00pm when it is actually noon.

Print this out on cardstock paper for the best results. Cut out the square base.(plate). Then cut out the gnomon. Fold the gnomon on the dotted lines. Tape or glue the gnomon onto the base where lines on the base, near the bottom, are shown.

Have fun!
