JROTC is one of the best ways to get your credits required to graduate! If you were to do four years of JROTC, you wouldn't have to take any PE classes or do sports, you would only have to do 3 years of science rather than 4, and you would get more than half of your required elective credits! Plus, if you did the drill team and summer camp during all four years, you wouldn't have to take any other elective classes!
From our classroom activities to our extracurricular activities, JROTC is designed to be a team environment that builds up better leaders. Here's some of the ways this happens:
Consistant teamwork and critical thinking lessons and activities
Competitive teams that rely heavily on unison and teamwork (drill, saber arches, color gaurds)
An emphasis on supportive and teamwork oriented behaviour/attitude no matter the situation
Leadership skills are taught through experience as well as lessons, and cadets have the opportunity to grow, learn, and gain plenty of experience by rising through the cadet chain of command.
Here's how JROTC can actually help you gain work experience and give you a boost when applying for jobs!
Gain interveiw experience through cadet of the quarter boards or staff job interveiws
Our staff jobs have a wide variety of responsibilities, from organizing events and activities to managing over $300,000 in equipment - and its all student led
Employers love to see that you did JROTC, especially if you held a staff position!
Above all, we value our community and the safe space we provide. To many cadets in our program, JROTC becomes a friend group, a support system, and a safe space. We are one team, and we're in this together.
