Mentorship Committees

Outreach

Outreach is in charge of making our class new courses to do with the freshman class in the fall. The courses teach ninth graders important skills, such as teamwork, communication, and leadership, all in a fun and interactive way. Each group is led through a debriefing session by their mentor at the completion of each course. This committee also schedules visits to other classes within South and sometimes our feeder elementary schools.

Welcoming committee welcomes all new students to our school no matter their grade. They create welcome packets that are delivered shortly after their arrival by a mentor who sits down and gets to know them and makes sure they feel welcome at South. This committee also welcomes eighth graders to South in the spring on their visits, interviews new mentors for the program, and plans activities for registration and assemblies in the fall.

fuel

Fuel is in charge of planning our monthly visits to all of the freshman history classes. The committee members receive input from counselors, teachers, and other students in the building, and they use this input to focus on topics and activities that will be beneficial to the freshmen. Once they plan out the fuel for the month, the committee members train the rest of the mentors in the class, and then we execute our presentations for our freshman history classes.

The Intensive committee is in charge of making sure that all students are doing okay, and help kids who need a little extra umph. There are 5 mentors in this committee that interact with all students by asking them how they’re doing and if they have any extra questions. They visit about three students once a month and interview them personally.

The spirit/interview committee is in charge of school spirit! We started a spirit closet with beads, paint, and lots of sparkles all dedicated to spirit weeks. The spirit portion of this committee created spirit points as well, for all the freshman classes. When the time of year comes around to interview new mentors this committee takes that over!

Executive Board

Our Exec Board consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Coordinator. The President and Vice President oversee the class, committees, tasks and projects. The Secretary takes notes during committee and executive board meetings, and sits in on the weekly South student government meetings. The Treasurer is in charge of the class account, purchases and fundraisers. The PR Coordinator takes pictures and documents all events, updates social media, newsletters, and the website.
