For the past three weeks, students have been working on writing a Realistic Fiction story. This means the story is fiction (made up), but has to be something that could really happen in real life (so no monsters, or teleporting, or things like that).
Students developed their own characters giving them a name and deciding on personality traits and preferences. Then students came up with a setting for their story, and a problem their character may encounter in that setting. Once they had this, students began writing their story. Since reading and writing isn't a great strength of everyone's, students utilized assistive technology such as Speech to Text to assist with writing/spelling, and Text to Speech to assist with re-reading their stories to edit.
Today, students finished their stories, and then did Peer Reviews. They partnered up, and read their partner's story, and then gave the partner feedback. (Did they like it? What did they like? Did they have any questions or feedback?) It was a lot of fun listening to our students discuss their writing. Their pieces turned out so much better than I ever imagined! Here are some pictures of them completing their Peer Reviews.
