2026-27 FAFSA Checklist
FAFSA will open October 1, 2025!
Step 1 : FSA ID Creation - Create FSA ID Website
Everyone needs an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA. If you completed the FAFSA, you may not need to create one if you already have an account. If you cannot remember your login information, here is how to access your account.
What you need to create your FSA ID: Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and Your own email and cell phone number. Students and contributors cannot use the same email and phone number.
Mixed Status Families - If the student has a social security number, but the parents do not, parents are still able to create an FSA ID. Resources - Financial Aid Resources for Students by 12th Year Campaign - Padlet
Washington State financial aid applicants should only submit one financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA) per academic year. If you have already completed a FAFSA or are eligible to apply for federal financial aid you do not need to complete a WASFA.
There are various reasons to complete a WASFA instead of a FAFSA:
Immigration status, or the student is undocumented
Undocumented parents or family members do not wish to file a FAFSA
Defaulted federal loans
Repayments owed on federal grants
