Description: Counselling services are available to all students at ASA, and the counsellor is available to support students in a variety of ways.
Students may be referred for individual or group counselling by their teachers, school administrators, or parents, or they may ask to see the counsellor themselves. As ASA serves an international, and often transient, population of students, the counsellor is available to support students who are transitioning into or out of ASA.
The counsellor works collaboratively with students, parents, teachers and administrators to ensure that each student is reaching their highest potential. This may take the form of teacher or parent consultation, or working together with stakeholders to put plans in place to ensure student success.
An essential part of school counselling programs is proactively teaching students social and emotional skills to help them become responsible classmates, friends, family members and global citizens. To this end, the counsellor supports Units of Inquiry where appropriate, and works with teachers to deliver lessons that foster social and emotional development.
