School and PE KIt Days.pdf

This diagram shows the days that young people, dependent on their US time group in S1 and S2 and year groups in S3 and S4 can wear their PE kit for Core PE.  On all other days they wear school kit.

This shows clearly the expectations of PE kit here at Mackie Academy.

Student Newssheets and Information

All young people have access to a newssheet through their GLOW account which gives them all the information they require relevant to their year group.

To access the join codes for the Newssheet Google Classrooms students can:

OR

Joining the classroom can be done via clicking on the invite link OR entering the join code inside Google Classroom after clicking on Join Class.

We advise all young people to join the relevant newssheet when they come to Mackie Academy as they only have to join once.

Mackie Academy School App

The School App for Mackie Academy is our key method of communication with parents and carers now.  If you have yet to download this onto your mobile device  we would like to encourage parents to download the app to their phone so that you can easily get up to date information from the school.

The app is easy to use and the School App User Guide shows you how to use it.  The key thing to remember is that once you have downloaded the app and chosen Mackie Academy you then need to opt out of the groups you don't wish to be part of e.g. if you have one child at Mackie Academy in S4 then you would opt out of all other year groups which means you only receive the messages and calendar events for S4.

The GDPR guidance associated with this app can be found here.

As a school we would ask that parents remain in the following groups:

Whole School

Catering

Parent Council

PTA

Other groups may come online as we develop use of the app and if you have any suggestions about how we make this work better for everyone then feel free to get in contact with the school.

Reporting a young person's absence to the school

If a young person is unable to attend school for any reason, the school should be advised of that reason by their parent/carer. There are three ways of contacting the school to report absences:

If no contact is made with the school to advise of the reason for absence, a text will be sent to the young person’s main contact to ask that a reason is given by return.  Parents and carers can now reply directly to an absence text message and will no longer need to call the school.

We hope these different options make things easier for you to report an absence.  We would ask that parents respond as quickly as possible if the school asks for confirmation of a reason for an absence as otherwise this will need to be followed up by a phone call, on the grounds of safeguarding, to ensure the young person is safe.

First Aid and Health Information at Mackie Academy

2024-04-child-off-school-a4.pdf

The information from Public Health Scotland opposite gives clear guidance on what a young person should and should not be kept off school for.

We would ask that parents and carers look at this carefully when determining whether or not a young person should remain out of school.
