What is the role of the Parent Council?
The Parent Council is made up of parents of young people attending Kemnay Academy. It is a voluntary role. The Parent Council helps to create an environment where all parents know that their views matter, and where they feel confident and comfortable putting them forward. They work on behalf of all parents to discuss educational matters that are of importance to all. The Parent Council does not get involved in individual circumstances relating to young people or staff in the school and any issues in this regard should be directed to the school.
Parent Council business includes:
facilitating partnerships between home, school and the community
communication with other parents and local schools
improvement planning for learning, teaching and parental involvement
consultations on education and policy
events such as assemblies and school fairs
contributing to the school vision rationale and aims
growing school and community finances through fundraising and grant applications
representing the school parent forum locally and nationally
The Parent Council meets once per term unless an extraordinary meeting is required for matters arising. The details of each meeting, including the date, agenda and minutes, are posted here, along with the names of the office bearers and the Parent Council email, which should be used for all contact. The Parent Council has representation from parents across the year groups. There is an AGM at which the office bearers are nominated and elected. If you are a parent or carer of a young person at the school, you can nominate yourself at the AGM, to serve on the Parent Council. There is no obligation to have an Office Bearer role and all parents are welcome to attend a meeting.
