Make a Volcano
Make an erupting volcano at home using things you probably have in the house.
Here is a link with instructions from the Natural History Museum.
Don't Melt the Ice!
Try wrapping ice cubes in different materials and see how long you can stop it from melting. Which materials stop the heat getting to the ice cube the most effectively?
Skittles Experiment
Which makes the rainbow faster - warm or cold water?
Follow this link for instructions.
Fingerprint Fun
Every human has completely unique fingerprints. Blow up yours on a balloon and compare them with other people in your house.
Super Senses
Blindfold challenges:
Taste - Can you identify different foods using your sense of smell and taste?
Touch - Make a 'feely' box. Put different things in a box and challenge someone to guess what they are using their sense of touch.
Floating and Sinking
Fill up the sink or bath with water. Test different objects and materials to find out what floats and what sinks. You could use things from your recycling!
Sound Waves
We can't see sound waves, but noises travels in waves. Put some cling film over a bowl and put some popcorn on top. Play some loud music and watch the popcorn jump around to the music! The cling film is a bit like our ear drum inside our ears!
Shaving Foam Clouds
Learn about the Water Cycle and make some beautiful rain. Fill a jar or container with water and squirt shaving foam on top to make a 'cloud'. Start dropping food colouring into the cloud and when the cloud becomes saturated (can't hold any more) 'rain' will start to fall.
