History and Development of Scots

The History and Development unit is part of the Scots Language Award. You will study the History of the Language, answering questions like:

  • How did it start hundreds of years ago?

  • How it has developed into modern Scots?

  • What factors have influenced it?

  • What links does Scots have to other languages like French, Latin, Flemish, Norwegian and Gaelic?

To complete the Unit, you have to write an essay or make an information poster about the factors that have influenced the Scots language throughout history, and the links that Scots has had through history.
