Symphonic Band is our advanced level band class at Joseph George Middle School. It encompasses 7th and 8th grade students who have completed one year of the Concert Band course. Students in this class use the skills and techniques developed in Concert Band to learn more advanced techniques and pieces of music.

Because this is the advanced band class at JGMS, it performs more frequently than the Concert Band and elementary band programs. In a typical year, the Symphonic Band performs for two VAPA Showcases, two school concerts, two or three elementary visits, and two festivals (for a total of eight or more performances per year).

A typical symphonic band setting includes variations of flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Piano and guitar are not typically included in a concert band setting.
