“Expanded Learning” means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of students through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.
It is the intent of the Legislature that Expanded Learning programs are student-centered, results driven, include community partners, and complement, but do not replicate, learning activities in the regular school day and school year.

Alum Rocks Expanded Learning Program (ASES/ELOP) provides safe and educationally enriching alternatives for children and youth during non-school hours. These programs are created through partnerships between schools and local community resources to provide literacy, academic, enrichment and safe constructive alternatives for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade (K-8).ASES Program Plan / ELO-P
The Alum Rock Union School District works closely with three community-based organizations to plan and implement a high quality Expanded Learning program for our students.
