Music Composition Experiments


STEP 1

Using the Chrome Music Lab Arpeggios area below, click the play button to listen to the basic set of patterns.

After listening to the first pattern several times, try clicking on different letters to see and hear how the pattern changes.


Now, get out a piece of paper and a pencil. Think about these questions and write down your answers:


  1. What did you notice about the visuals as the music was playing?


  1. How did the music change when you clicked on a different letter?


  1. How did the colors change when you clicked on a different letter?


  1. Did anything stay the same? If so, what?



STEP 2

Now it's YOUR turn to create a musical pattern! Use the Melody Maker below to create a pattern by clicking on the boxes on the screen. Remember: you need to create a series that repeats. Click play to listen to your pattern.


Now, pull out your piece of paper and a pencil. Think about these questions and write down your answers:
