Finding Math Rules

Math rules can appear in patterns, and may be based in either repetition or rhythm. Let's look at this times table for some examples of this.

Table 1: Write out just the 'ones' digit of each product from the first column and put it into the third column. The first two have been done as an example for you.

QUESTION: What pattern do you see in the third column?

Table 2: Write out just the 'tens and hundreds' digit of each product from the first column and put it into the third column. The first two have been done as an example for you.

QUESTION: What pattern do you see in the second column?

COMPARE your pattern from the first table with the pattern from the second table. How are they related? Do the patterns show repetition, rhythm or both?
