東京都出身。桐朋女子高等学校音楽科を経て桐朋学園大学音楽学部演奏学科を卒業後、渡英。英国王立音楽大学のピアノ科に奨学生として入学。2008年度から4年間、財団法人ロームミュージックファンデーションより助成を受け、同大学の修士課程、国家演奏会資格を修了、ジュニアフェロー伴奏員を務める。

第75回日本音楽コンクールピアノ部門第2位、第22回フェロール国際ピアノコンクール第1位、第6回イスィドル・バイッチ記念ピアノコンクール第1位、第5回ルイジアナ国際ピアノコンクール第1位を受賞。第77回読売新人演奏会、英BBCラジオ3、BBCテレビ4に出演。

現在はコラボレイティブピアニストとして、英国国内を中心に弦楽器、管楽器とのデュオリサイタル活動を行う傍ら、ヘイスティングス国際ピアノコンチェルトコンクール、タンブリッジウェルズ国際コンクールの公式伴奏員を務める。また英国王立音楽大学弦楽器科のデュオコーチとして後進の指導も行っている。

     Kumi Matsuo is a versatile solo pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. She has won numerous competitions including First Prize in the 6th Isidor Bajic Memorial Piano Competition in Serbia and First Prize in the 5th Louisiana International Piano Competition, USA. She is now on the staff at RCM, working as Duo Coach to the String Faculty, as well as accompanying other instruments. 

     Kumi studied at the Toho Gakuen College of Music, Tokyo, and then at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London studying with John Blakely and Ashley Wass and completed her studies there with Artist Diploma and Master of Music in Performance with Distinction. She has also finished the Anthony Saltmarsh Junior Fellow in Accompaniment. Her study was generously supported by Charles Napper Award, the Russell Gander Award and the Rohm Music Foundation. 

     During her study at RCM, Kumi won RCM concerto competition twice and performed Ravel's Piano Concerto for Left Hand in Cadogan Hall with RCM Sinfonietta conducted by Peter Stark and Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto with RCM Symphony Orchestra under Martin André in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, RCM. She also played Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No.1 with RCM Chamber Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. 

     As soloist and chamber musician Kumi has played extensively in the UK and abroad, performing at venues including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Windsor Castle, Elgar Room (Royal Albert Hall), Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall, Royal Baths Park (Poland), Dubai Opera (Studio), Tokyo Opera City Hall, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and Kioi Hall. 

     Kumi enjoys collaborating with other instrumetalists and performing in recitals across the UK. She has been an official accompanist for the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition since 2022. 

松尾久美が演奏する作品はドビュッシーの二重の熟達の境地、つまり「単純さ」シンプリシティーと「複雑さ」コンプレキシティという際立った世界を浮き立たせる。「子供の領分」は、軽やかで想像力豊かな要素からなり、シンプルなのは技術的な容易さではなく、親しみやすいテーマ、遊び心にあふれたムード、無邪気な魅力がそうなのである。この組曲の各曲は、構成も旋律も比較的単純で、子供のような純粋さと驚きを表現したもの。ドビュッシーは、親しみやすい和声と穏やかなリズムを用いて、聴く者を子供の頃の思い出や情景の世界へと誘う。たとえば「Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum 」や 「The Little Shepherd 」といったタイトルは、気まぐれさと温かみの両方を表している。対照的に、12曲のエチュードは、ドビュッシーの高度な複雑性を示すもので、複雑な技術的要求と哲学的深みをもって書かれている。これらの曲はピアノ・テクニックの全領域を網羅しており、各エチュードはアルペジオ、オクターヴ、和音といった特定の課題に焦点を当てている。しかし、ドビュッシーは技術的な側面だけでなく、和声、テクスチャー、調性の探求を何層にも重ね、伝統的なピアノ表現の限界に挑戦している。不協和音、型にはまらない音階、複雑なリズムを駆使するドビュッシーは、聴き手に知的、感情的な関与を求める成熟した複雑な芸術性を提示している。

The works that Kumi Matsuo will perform today highlight Debussy's double mastery: simplicity and complexity. The simplicity of “Children's Corner” is not technical simplicity, but familiar themes, playful moods, and innocent charm. Each piece in this suite is relatively simple in structure and melody, expressing childlike innocence and wonder. Debussy uses familiar harmonies and gentle rhythms to transport the listener into a world of childhood memories and scenes. Titles such as “Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum” and “The Little Shepherd,” for example, express both whimsy and warmth. 

In contrast, the twelve etudes demonstrate Debussy's high degree of complexity, written with complex technical demands and philosophical depth. They encompass the full spectrum of piano technique, with each etude focusing on a specific issue such as arpeggios, octaves, and chords. However, Debussy challenges the limits of traditional piano expression, not only in technical aspects, but also in layers of harmonic, textural, and tonal exploration. Debussy's use of dissonance, unconventional scales, and complex rhythms presents a mature and complex artistry that demands the listener's intellectual and emotional involvement.
