How do I add my students? If you go to the People tab, and click the person+ icon near Add Students. The directory has all students and add, so start typing your students' names in. Also, if you have a list of email address, you can copy and paste it there (faster). By adding them manually, when students go to classroom.google.com, they'll see the class invitation and all they have to do is accept to join the class.

Another way is to create the class and give them the join code (in the Stream, under the name of the class), but this way requires more effort on the student's end.

Special Education Teachers and Google Classrooms

An important question that comes up all the time with Special Education Teachers is, how to create Google Classrooms for students on IEPs and 504s in a regular setup, yet maintain the confidentiality.

To maintain confidentiality, these are some of the options:

1. If you push into classrooms, the teacher of the classroom may add you as a co-teacher. As a co-teacher, you may assign work to specific individuals you work with. The assignments attached to those individual student accounts always remain private. Consequently, teachers can have a private exchange of information.

2. If you pull students out in small groups, then creating a classroom for the group of students is a good idea. When adding students, you can also choose nicknames rather than the real names to maintain confidentiality. Also, select " Teacher can only post or comment" feature in the "Stream" setting tab, to avoid unwanted chats among students. Teachers can, however, make private comments on students' work on Google Doc or any other assignment.

3. If none of the above work for you, you can create individual classrooms for each student.
