What better way to start off Rivers to Lakes week than by visiting your favourite nearby pond or lake! Whether you decide to build some sandcastles on the lake by the beach or bird watch at your nearby pond remember to have fun and appreciate being able to spend time outdoors!
Visit the Canadian Wildlife Federation website to learn about some of the endangered animal species in Alberta and Canada that you could help save. Or find an interesting nature show or documentary to watch, maybe you even find one related to Rivers and Lakes!
Take the opportunity to visit a local green space and explore its biodiversity. Try and identify the name of as many different animals or plants as you can and do your best to guess what species they are!
Continue celebrating the our rivers, lakes and oceans with your favourite water activity! Maybe you decide to go swimming indoors or outdoors, build a slip n’ slide or run through the sprinkler, maybe you even decide to have a water balloon fight!
Celebrate Canadian Rivers Day by planning your own river valley trail adventure. If you are in the Edmonton and/or surrounding areas, get out and #trekthetrails with the River Valley Alliance. For those outside of the Edmonton area, visit a local trail nearby to #trekthetrails as well. Where ever you are just remember to appreciate Alberta’s rivers and trails with everything they have to offer.
Have you been itching to do another craft? If so, today is the day! Draw or paint your favourite aquatic animal or go online to find some river or lake themed inspiration for your next big craft!
