Ancient Civilizations

The 6th grade history curriculum centers around the essential question,“How does the study of ancient civilizations help us understand why the world is the way it is today?” In order to allow students to make connections between various ancient civilizations, the course utilizes a thematic approach. The following themes are explored: Thinking Like a Historian, Humans’ Interaction with their Environment, Cultural Development, Interaction and Change, Leadership and Decision Making, Inventions and Achievements, and Economic Systems and Trade. Students will study Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, the Indus River Valley, Western Africa, and Mesoamerica.
