Prof. Sandhu is the director of the Compact X-ray Free Electron Laser (CXFEL). This facility houses a compact X-ray light source for generating femtosecond hard-x-rays for diffractive imaging of the dynamic structure of materials and proteins.
An NSF-funded compact (~10m) free electron laser is under construction to produce tunable, coherent, high-flux soft-x-rays from 250 to 2500 eV. This source will have applications in x-ray spectroscopy and imaging of quantum materials and biomolecules, and will perform attosecond-resolved studies of electron dynamics in atomic and molecular systems.
