Every year, teaching staff are supported with additional resources to highlight careers and how they link to what they are teaching.
Approximately 30-40 employers come into school during NCW and students can choose which workshops they wish to attend over the course of the day.
Again, during NCW, students in years 9-11 are invited to apply for a virtual, or real job. Application letters and CVs are assessed by our Enterprise Advisor who short lists and invites successful candidates to interview. All students receive feedback and students who are offered the job, receive a voucher as a reward.
Students are given resources to help them learn more and the opportunity to discuss apprenticeships in CPD lessons, and students who have a serious interest in this pathway are identified and invited to attend an apprenticeship workshop.
Year 12 students who are interested in this pathway are invited to attend apprenticeship workshops during NAW. They can also avail of mock interviews and job application support.
Every Friday lunchtime, someone comes in to talk about their job. All students are invited to attend and learn more. See images below.
Over 3 separate dates, Year 11 students are given the opportunity to attend 3 apprenticeship workshops, A Level subject tasters or college events.
All Year 10 students, and Year 11 students interested in this pathway attend an in-school College Fair where 8-10 local colleges are represented.
A selection of students suited to this pathway, are given the opportunity to visit Solihull College to see for themselves what a college environment looks like.
A small group of students interested in this career are given the opportunity to visit Solihull Hospital's Maternity Unit and spend the day with professionals learning more about what the various roles in this sector actually involve.
Students interested in becoming a pilot, are invited to apply for the Fantasy Wings programme. Successful candidates attend Coventry airfield one day per month for 10 months, and learn all about how to become a pilot.
