2 Poems

By Meg McGee

Bless Your Heart

It’s been nine years

since you left,

but I still think

I saw you yesterday.

Sitting where I always

found you

in your precious garden

working the dirt

with tired hands.

Your baggy clothes

are dusty with pollen,

your tan arms

are marked by thorns.

I remember playing

in the turned over dirt,

handing you

wilted flowers

that were long past due

Still, you smiled at me and said

“Bless your heart”

before you continued

planting your soul.

Vinyl Records

I always admired the love you shared

For vintage vinyl

Carrying your portable player

With you everywhere

In order to hear the pure sound.

I love watching them spin

On the turntable

As the two of us lay on your floor

Listening to your newest find.

Timeless like your music

You are always able

To find the right song to play

When the record in my head

Starts to skip.
