Metamorphosis
By Sierra Tufts-Sicard
Artwork by Carly Maloney
Innocence
runs through the flora
looking for dots of yellow.
five tiny petals—
she plays the game,
holds a delicate flower
under her little chin.
does she like butter?
the future reaches out
eyes darken, lips moisten
breasts swell, hips widen
Corruption
clutches the small sun;
youth cannot survive this field.
deep purple petals—
a foreboding hood,
beauty with a secret
bitter as dandelion greens.
do you want a taste?
