Huarapa 3 & 4

Week 5 & 6

Inquiry: Liffey River

In Huarapa 3 and 4, we have begun our inquiry about tuna (eels). We kickstarted our learning with a trip to the Liffey River. We loved watching the tuna swimming up the stream to eat raw eggs and meat. We also made boats and enjoyed testing them in the water. We were very pleased when none of them sunk! Thank you to all our amazing parent helpers who made this trip possible.

Music with Whaea Cassandra

This week we had a wonderful afternoon of music with Whaea Cassandra. We learnt lots about following a rhythm and enjoyed experimenting with different percussion instruments.

Week 4

Traditional Maori Games

Hugh from Kelly Sports visited on Wednesday (and will do so for the rest of this term) to teach us some traditional Maori games. This one is called Hipitoi. It is a bit like Paper, Scissors, Rock. Get one of our experts to teach you how to play if you are up for the challenge!

Cricket

We have had an active week! On Monday Tim visited us and taught us some cricket skills. In the photos you can see some of us practising catching, batting and fielding in short fun games and activities. We used the perseverance and resilience we have been working hard on, to build our abilities and confidence!

Week 3

Football with Active Leaders

Over the past few weeks, we have enjoyed developing our football skills by participating in activities run by our Year 5 Active Leaders. We have been learning to kick, dribble and intercept the ball.

Cooking

During play this week, we have been busy cooking. We carefully measured our own ingredients, mixed it together and shaped our biscuit. Sometimes we needed to problem-solve by adding more flour or liquid to get the right consistency. How delicious!

Weeks 1 & 2

Elmer Collage

Weeks 1 & 2 in our 'new' learning space saw a lot of enthusiasm and colour as we explored collage! We discussed how we are all unique and special, and collaged some Elmer elephants. Check out the colours and care everyone took to get high quality work!

Curious and Capable on Display!

We are being curious and exploring something new- 3D paper mache! It is a bit tricky and will make us focus on our perseverance and resilience! I wonder if you can guess what we might be making?

Is this the longest snake in New Zealand?

We have being investigating pattern (Algebra) in our class recently. How many patterns can you see in the loooooong snake? A lot of us worked together to collaborate and show kotahitanga to create this. Children were debugging the patterns as well, carefully going along the sequence and correcting any errors. And of course it was fun!
