Term 1

Week 7

Insects

On Monday afternoon, Bex from Lincoln University came in to speak to us. She brought with her a collection of insects that had been preserved in glass cases. We enjoyed exploring the different kinds of insects.

Kids in Space

This week we had Anne-Marie, a NASA science teacher, come teach us about space. We loved wearing our own space suits! Throughout the day, we explored planets, rockets, astronauts, and life on space stations.

Week 6

Inquiry

Over the past few weeks, we have been investigating living landscapes. We have explored bees and discussed how they communicate to each others by dancing! It's called a waggle dance and points the bees in the direction of the pollen. We've enjoyed learning more about our worm farm and the kinds of food we can give them. We have also been investigating different types of farms and the process of cows making milk.

Week 5

Learning Through Play

Look what we have been learning this week!

Making Oobleck

Is it a solid, a liquid or both?

Week 4

Wild Things

This week we read the book "Where the Wild Things are" by Maurice Sendak. We created our own Wild Thing and wrote a story about them. Next we followed some instructions to draw our own Wild Thing. We wrote about what our Wild Thing may do or eat. Come and look at our work in Huarapa!

Discovery Maths

Over the next few weeks, we are discovering capacity and volume. Here are some of the activities we have been exploring. We have been using the words: "more", "less" and "the same". Please help us at home. This could be a fun bath time activity!

Week 3

Building Sandcastles

This week we used the sandpit for our rich language experience. Students worked together to build a sandcastle. We then used this to inform our writing.

Arts Afternoon

Every Thursday, children will be participating in an arts rotation. This week we did music, drama, and visual art
