Week 1 and 2
We have had a great start to Term 2.
Our Year 6s had a trip to Ngati Moki Marae where they confidently shared their Pepeha and took part in activities to learn more about the stories of the local area.
In Literacy, students had a choice of 1 of 3 groups to join on Wednesday and Thursday as part of our 'writing project'. Whaea Louise has been running the Wonder Project which is a Science themed project based on making bottle rockets. We have an ambassador called Matt who is an engineer.
In Maths, we continue to learn more about fractions and apply our knowledge to real life situations.
Our inquiry over the last 2 weeks has been finishing off our agamographs started last term ( which will be on the wall soon) and recording facts which we will QR code onto the art work.
We have been doing lost of fitness and PE in the run up to our Cross Country event in the next few weeks.
Wow! Its the end of term - Didn't that go fast?!
Today we have spent the day completing the 2 pictures for our agamographs. We used watercolour or oil pastel and dye. The finished art works will be on display next term.
We had an awesome visit from Kelly (Project Jonah) who shared lots of great information about the different types of whales and whale strandings. Some photos are shared above.
*Whaea Molly has done most of the teaching over the past 2 weeks. We have practised writing recounts - remembering to use time connectives, first person and the senses.
*We have continued our inquiry project on under water animals and have now chosen an animal that we want to learn more about and to create a piece of art about.
*In maths, we have been learning about statistics and the different graphs that we can use.
*Elgregoe came to school and we watched an awesome magic show about the school values and how to show them
A piece of writing by Grace:
Project Jonah
Last week on Thursday a special guest, a very nice lady, came. Her name was Kelly and she told us about our whales.
Kelly was perfectly telling us about our fabulous whales and how to save one. She even brought in a baby pilot whale with a sheet over it but don’t worry it was just a blown up whale, and I was surprised that the baby was pretty large for a baby!
Firstly, a few minutes in she told us how to save one if it’s stranded on a beach. It was a pretty awesome thing to know because you're saving wildlife.
Secondly, she took us outside with a measuring tape and she asked someone to grab the end and pull until 30 metres and after 30m she showed us how big the whales are each metre or two. We got to the start of the tape and she explained “now that’s 30 metres, the size of our blue whales!”
Lastly, after she was packing to leave we played a quick quiet game of silent
ball and after we were back to work.
Did you know? The smallest whale is a long finned pilot whale 4.6 - 6 metres!
Now whenever I go to the beach I look around for any helpless whales stranded. Thanks Project Jonah!

What a great week we have had!
The photos above are from our challenges from day 1. We had to get a hoop around the circle without unlocking our hands. We also had a cupful of lego to make something with as a small group. We ended up with some great creations!
Banqer - We have started our class financial literacy programme which has been lots of fun so far. We have learned about income, expenses and have applied for class jobs. More about Banqer has come home in your child's bag tonight.
We are currently finishing off a poem and some art about our holiday which will be up on the walls soon. We are very proud of what we have achieved:)
