It has been great to finally start enjoying the sunny weather during class time for this past fortnight.
Over in HK4, we have been creating some spooky ghosts for Halloween. For inquiry this week, we have been focusing on friction and gravity. Our favourite part was doing fair tests using a tennis ball and a ruler!
In Pūrei one and two, we have been continuing our work investigating different games from previous generations. We have since gotten ourselves into groups and have been working on planning different ways to teach people about a game we have selected. Next week people will sign up for one of the games!

What an exciting start to the final term of the year!
Hikuwai 5 & 6 had the exciting news that we were able to move into our new space and everyone is loving it! We have had our classroom names officially changed: Hikuwai 5 is now Pūrei 1 and Hikuwai 6 is now Pūrei 2. We are still changing with Hikuwai 4 for math and iDeal (structured literacy) which has been great to be in some of our old spaces!
Pūrei 1 & 2 have began their inquiry this term around moving back in time, learning to play unplugged! We have had great fun exploring games such as Marbles, Cornhole, Cards, Poggo sticks, Elastics and some of us even had a go on rollerskates Whaea Maree used as a child! We plan on investigating some other games and then hosting workshops teaching our classmates how to play a particular game. If anyone has any old games they are willing to share, we would love the chance to have a go playing it in the next two weeks.
In Hikuwai 4, our inquiry is based on the movement of forces. So far, we have explored what the different forces are. We then made parachutes and started our investigations into what gravity is!
Last Tuesday, we had an amazing opportunity to go to the hall and attend House of Bricks. During this time, we learnt how to build marble maze games using lego. It was so much fun getting to try other peoples mazes.
This week has been a very sad yet exciting week for us here in Hikuwai 4,5,6.
On Thursday with a heavy heart, we wished Whaea Louise good luck with her new job! We will miss her a lot but are very happy for her to go back to a school she loves.
We have been waiting patiently and the day has finally arrived where we have been allowed to see our new classrooms! The new building space has been gifted the name Pūrei, which links with the other names and the waterways around the Kura. We attended a ceremony this afternoon, to bless our new classroom. It was great to be able to be a part of this, and was exciting to be able to see around our new space.
Last week we celebrated Māori Language Week. It was amazing to see so many students from Hikuwai 4,5,6 put in an entry into the competitions. A congratulations to Julia for winning the prize of getting to do an activity at lunchtime with Matua Micheal. We still have one prize up for grabs next term for the overall best entry, I wonder who will win!
