What ways can I earn service credits?
Academic Service-Learning
Service Learning Courses
In some classes, there is a Service-Learning component available, which allow you to earn service credits. The availability of these courses varies, as it is up to the professors to include them in their courses. If you take part, you will work with community partners chosen by the professor and complete a project to earn the service credit. For more details on Service Learning courses and what is required, please check the student checklist tab.

The Office of Service and Discipleship offers three ways to earn service credits: one-time, ongoing opportunities, and global service opportunities.
One-Time Events:
These popup service credit opportunities last for one day and provide five credits. The OSD office posts these opportunities on its website.
Ongoing Service:
Ongoing service credit opportunities are weekly service opportunities in the local community. Depending on how often you volunteer, you can earn up to 30 credits. More information on community partners can be found on their websites.
Global Service:
Global Engagement teams offer students opportunities to serve nationally and internationally over fall, spring, and summer breaks. The experiences vary in length, location, intensity, and type of service. All global engagement experiences earn students 30 service credits.

3. Other
Another way to earn service credits is by volunteering or completing internships. The requirements for earning service credits is that they must be off campus, and must be unpaid.
EX: Church volunteering, animal shelter, soup kitchen, etc..
Each student completing service credits outside of APU (I.E what was mentioned above) should complete the online Service Credit Report Form at the end of each service experience. A short reflection on the service experience is required as part of the online form. Once filled out, the Service Credit Report Form will be processed, approved, and posted on the student’s home.apu.edu account. Students can expect their credit to be posted roughly 2-4 weeks after submitting their report(s).

Check to see what courses are service-learning!
One way students can earn service credits is by participating in an Academic Service-Learning course. Professors can choose to integrate this pedagogy into their course. Therefore, some majors may have more service-learning courses than others. To see all the service-learning courses available for the Fall 2024 & Spring 2025, click below.
*Students can ask their professors to implement service-learning as well!
