Dear Cristal, Jian-hao (Kenny) and Valerie:

In the beginning of this year, we spoke about how your internship would be much like the process of a caterpillar transforming into a Monarch butterfly. I let you know that struggles and challenges were a natural, vital part of the process. To fully transform and become butterflies that can soar, a lengthy process would ensue. Well, you trusted the process, and here you are--butterflies with your own inner strengths and beauties, your own unique perspectives, ready to spread your wings and soar! In the words of the great Maya Angelou, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” We know doing an internship during a pandemic, not to mention in the midst of world strife, has been intense, but we are so proud of everything you have achieved this year. To you, and all your GSWEC colleagues, we wish you are heartfelt congratulations!!
