In 1999 Mr Chris Huang, then the Vice-General Secretary, organised the first international invitational championships in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, which opened the door for Chinese Taipei to promote Tchoukball to the world. The Asia Tchoukball Federation (ATBF) was also set up during this event. During this time, Japan and Chinese Taipei were the only two countries actively promoting Tchoukball in Asia.
In 2005 Mr Chris Huang having studied the history of sport, realized that for the future prospect for Tchoukball to be great, it needed to be promoted and grow internationally. The ATBF General Secretary then was Professor Fang Ray Ming who was the person to introduce Tchoukball into Chinese Taipei. When he passed away, Mr Chris Huang was appointed to the position.
In 2005 Mr Chris Huang began his journey to promote Tchoukball in Asia. He went to Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and others. He donated equipment such as balls, frames and also organised Coach seminars out of his own pocket, even the airfares. How did he promote so successfully? Firstly, he focused on making Tchoukball a fun sport to play. Second, he taught the importance of the educational spirit of Tchoukball, which is to minimize physical contact and injury in this particular sport. Last but not least, he took time to develop good relationship with the local federations. The outcome was successful and well liked in every country he promoted in. The number of countries promoting Tchoukball actively doubled and these countries also participated in the international championships.
After the 2006 Asia Cup, the then IF president Mr Daniel Buschbeck, proposed the renaming of Asia Tchoukball Federation (ATBF) to Asia Pacific Tchoukball Federation (APTBF) to involve Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands in its promotion of Tchoukball. When the World Games 2009 was hosted in Kaohsiung, Mr Chris Huang organized the General Assembly for the Asian members and to watch Tchoukball in this successful event. Meanwhile, APTBF held an election and Mr Chou Hung Shih, President of the National Chinese Taipei Sport University, was elected as the President of APTBF. APTBF began to organize itself and received government funding support from the Sport Administration Ministry of Education, to promote Tchoukball in Asia.
In 2010 there were 10 countries that participated in the Asia Tchoukball Championships. Regional federations such as East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia were established gradually in order to enable people from similar cultures and close proximity to promote, host and organise championships together. APTBF is the first Continental Federation to successfully organized these regional federations.
In 2013 Mr Chou Hung Shih was reelected as the President of APTBF. By 2015 there were 25 countries actively promoting Tchoukball in Asia Pacific region. Such a resounding outcome within a short 10 years time frame is a testament of the great united effort of everyone from all these countries.
In 2017 during the East Asia Cup in South Korea, Mr Chou Hung Shih was reelected unopposed due to his remarkable performance.
