Welcome to Mrs. Kelley's Social Studies Site! Here, you will find all the information you need to know about my sixth-grade history class. To find content information about a specific unit, use the navigation bar at the top to locate the page that you need.

How to be successful in this class

come to class with a charged Chromebook every day

keep up with upcoming assignments on the Pink Page Calendar

Your Grade

Each quarter, you will have nine grades that are averaged to obtain your quarterly grade. These grades are a mixture of tests, quizzes, essays, homework, projects, and the Ascension Parish benchmark.

Unit Tests

Unit tests consist of a mixture of content-based questions (which you should study for ahead of time) and source-based questions (which we will prepare for in class). Your tests will also include a constructed response question (short answer).

Grading Scale:

- - - 90-100: A
    - 80-89: B
    - 70-79: C
    - 60-69: D
    - 50-59: F

Late Work

you may turn in any assignment late, but your grade will be docked by one letter for every day that you turn in a late assignment.
students have three days to make up missing work after an excused absence
students with unexcused absences will be required to turn in work and complete assessments on the day they return to school.

Heads Up!

- All students should check the "Heads Up" Board in my classroom EVERY DAY for important information. This info needs to be shared with parents via the student's agenda.

Projects

You will have at least one required project each quarter - some will be in-class projects, others will be homework.
YOU must complete these projects. Your parents can help you, but the work must be your own. I will not grade any project that has been completed by your parent, guardian, aunt, neighbor, coach, hairstylist, publicist, etc.

Homework

- Every Thursday, you will have a weekly Think-Back due. Find out more about Think-Backs by clicking here.
- After every unit test, you will have test correction homework. The instructions for completing your test corrections can be found on the Test Correction site for each unit (links to these sites will be available on the unit pages of this site). Test correction homeowork is due two days after your test, and counts as a separate homework grade. It is graded for accuracy.
- Occasionally there may be an assignment that was not finished in class, which will need to be completed for homework.
- Homework should be written in your agenda, but if you forget, you can find your homework by clicking the button in the Class Toolbox

Quizzes

All quiz grades are averaged into one major grade.
You will have a VIP (vocabulary, individuals, and places) quiz with each unit. These quizzes will be easy if you study!
You will periodically be given pop quizzes on content questions that come directly from your notes. This is to ensure that you are studying your notes every night.
class activities will sometimes be taken as quiz grades. Make sure you complete your classwork.

Guided Notes

Each unit will include a set of notes.
You will take these notes during class instruction, but if you are missing any notes, make sure to get them off of this site.
You are responsible for studying these notes for a few minutes every night. You will be given pop quizzes to ensure that you are doing this.
It's a good idea to check the notes that you took in class against the notes that are on this site....you want to have the correct answers for the test!

Writing in History Class

Writing is an important part of history class! We will learn how to create two types of written expression: constructed responses (short answers) and extended responses (essays).
You will write two extended response essays each quarter. One will be one of your nine major grades, and the other will be part of your benchmark. We will also write constructed responses throughout each quarter.

Grade Level Expectations

The State of Louisiana Department of Education has put together a list of concepts that students should learn while in sixth-grade world history class.
These concepts are officially called "Grade Level Expectations", but we call them "cupcakes." :)
