Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at James Monroe and Mrs. Everett’s 7th grade Social Studies class! I hope to make this a fun and informative year where inquiry-based and student-centric learning are at the heart of our classroom. This year we will explore the history of New Mexico by taking a deeper look into its geography, native cultures, exploration, settlement, cultural development, and statehood.

TRAVEL WALL EXTRA CREDIT
The purpose of this assignment is for students to see and experience New Mexico History throughout the state as well as share these experiences with their classmates. Students may only submit one entry per 9 week period. Travel must take place within the state of New Mexico as well as within the 2025-2026 School Year, 8/7/2025-5/08/2026 (I need time to grade assignments so I will not accept them after 5/08). In order to receive credit students must:
Visit a place of historical significance (Bandelier, Chaco Canyon, Petroglyphs, Trinity Site, Atomic Museum, Las Golondrinas, etc.)
Take and attach a selfie to their assignment
Either complete the Travel Wall Handout (posted in Google Classroom, classroom website, and available in hardcopy format in the classroom) or write a one page paper detailing what they did, saw, and learned. Papers may include information learned through experience and research; however, they MUST be written in the student's own words. Any plagiarized materials will not be graded.
Students may earn up to a possible 50 points for sites visited inside Bernalillo County and 100 points for sites visited outside the county. Entries will be posted in the classroom so students may read and learn about their classmate’s adventures. Additional pictures are always welcome!
You will be prompted to make a copy of the form which you will then be able to edit and save as your own document or print.
