Gifted Program Statement of Purpose
The Gifted Program at ECA provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where gifted students’ voices, ideas, and individuality are valued. Within this safe space, students are encouraged to explore their areas of strength, address areas of growth, and engage in learning that reflects their personal interests and preferred approaches in a monitoring model. At the same time, taking their advanced coursework offered at ECA. Sponsor teacher meets/advocates/mentors/consults with students about 15 minutes a week (more if needed). This will look different for each student depending on their IEP and personal goals and needs. It is certainly a supportive approach.
Our goal is to cultivate a positive learning community built on respect, kindness, and curiosity. Students are inspired to take educational risks, embrace challenges, and set ambitious “stretch goals” that promote both academic and personal growth. Through self-advocacy, reflection, and creative problem-solving, students learn to take ownership of their learning journey.
The program follows a mentoring/monitoring model in which students work closely with their sponsor teacher (that's me), who serves as both mentor and advocate. This relationship provides individualized support, guidance, and opportunities for enrichment, ensuring that each student’s unique needs and goals are recognized and nurtured.
Participation in the ECA Gifted Program is reserved for students who have met the criteria for gifted identification and have an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Together, we strive to empower gifted learners to reach their fullest potential, academically, creatively, and emotionally, within a supportive and encouraging environment.
