Simply, informal expectations are to be kind, have fun, and be an engaged critical and creative thinker. This is a safe space to engage intellectually, to have integrity, and to be yourself.
Formal expectations and procedures:
CLASSROOM RULES
First and foremost: think critically, have fun, and be kind!
Rule 1: • Show respect to teacher, others, our classroom, and yourself.
“Respect is too valuable to be given for free. It must be earned through positive words and deeds.”
Rule 2: • Take responsibility for your actions.
“Maturity is a measure of your willingness to accept responsibility, without excuses, for your actions.”
Rule 3: • Behave positively and try your hardest every day.
“The proof of a belief lies in conduct. Let your behavior speak so clearly that you don’t have to explain your principles.”
Rule 4: • Contribute to class discussions; this class is highly participatory.
“To learn, read; to understand, participate.”
Rule 5: • Be honest.
“The truth needs so little rehearsal.”
I am better equipped to support students when I know the truth about their situation. Additionally, all work submitted should be your own. The following is considered dishonest: giving false excuses, skipping class, using another student’s work from a previous year or this year, copying another student’s work, looking at another student’s test, allowing another student to copy from your test, having access to any cheat sheet, and copying or pasting work from the internet and other published material without citing sources.
