8th Grade Gifted ELA
Course Description: Students will develop essential English Language Arts skills related to reading, writing, speaking, and listening by engaging with complex, grade-level texts and classroom activities, including, but not limited to, close reading practices, various writing tasks, group activities, and discussions, as well as formative and summative assessments. Students will work on meeting their IEP goals for Gifted ELA Education. Specific paperwork regarding students on my caseload will go home separately from this document.

Objectives/Goals: Students will:
Develop critical thinking and language together through interactive learning
Develop oral language and literacy through appropriately challenging learning
Analyze literature from many genres, history, and cultures
Use writing as an essential way to develop, clarify, and communicate ideas in persuasive, expository, literary, and expressive discourse.
Develop the strategies necessary for acquiring academic knowledge and attaining independence in learning.

6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade
Curriculum & Textbook Information: The curriculum is designed and implemented around the Common Core standards and will focus primarily on essential reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Complex, grade-level texts will come from various district-provided and school-provided resources. We will focus on a variety of different genres with multiple perspectives and purposes. Jefferson uses the Amplify Literature Textbook.
Most required texts will be provided in class. Specific objectives and standards for each unit of study will be communicated to families throughout the school year via email and Google Classroom.
