Introducing the Padcaster to Your Class

See the Getting Started Lessons page for introductory lesson slides.

The product in this video differs slightly from our Padcaster Studio Kit. However, you can get all the steps for set up!

How to Use the Padcaster Producer App

Audio

The Padcaster Studio includes three microphones so you can capture high-quality audio in any filming situation:(1) hand-held Stick Microphone, (2) clip-on Lavalier Microphone, and (3) a camera-mounted Unidirectional Microphone. Each mic provides a purpose-built solution to recording the best possible audio.

Dual Microphone/ Headphone Splitter & Stereo Headphones

The splitter plugs directly into the headphone jack on the iPad. Use the dual end to connect the microphone of your choice and the stereo headphones. If you are having any sound issues, please be sure to check the small icons on the dual ends of the splitter to ensure the microphone and headphones are connected to the correct input or output. There is one designated input for the microphone and one designated as output for the headphones. Please note, while the splitter is plugged into the iPad you will need to use the stereo headphones to listen to any audio playback. You will not hear sound via the iPad if the splitter is plugged into the iPad's headphone jack. You may also need to unmute the playback in the camera app.

Hand Held Stick Microphone

This mic is usually used to capture more focused audio (when you don't want as much background/ambient noise) but can be used by or passed to multiple people.

Lavalier Microphone

This mic is usually used to capture audio from a single person. It allows for hands-free recording of sound. This mic also includes a windscreen (a small, fluffy, fuzzy cover) that can be placed over the foam to cut down on wind/excess background noise. Directions for the mic can be found in the pack or here.

Camera-mounted Unidirectional Microphone

This mic will capture audio from any sources within the room. It will pick up the most background/ambient noise. Please leave this mic attached to iPad case. The orange mounting bracket is delicate. This mic also includes a windscreen (a larger, fluffy, fuzzy cover) that can be placed over the foam to cut down on wind/excess background noise.

Visual

The Padcaster Studio comes with three lenses, so you can adjust your iPad’s field of view to meet your recording needs: (1) Padcaster Wide Angle Lens (2) unscrew the front portion of the wide angle lens and transform your wide-angle lens into a Macro Lens for close up focus and shallow depth of field and (3) the Padcaster Telephoto Lens provides you with double the iPad’s standard lens’s field of view so you can capture your subject from a greater distance. Of course you can also just use the iPad's own lens power through the camera app.

Padcaster Wide Angle/ Macro Lens

The Padcaster .45x Wide Angle/Macro Lens dramatically increases the iPad’s field of view.  Meaning you can view more space that the standard iPad lens with this attachment. The 58mm rear thread attaches directly to the Padcaster lens bracket, and you can use additional 62mm filters in front of the lens as well. You can unscrew the front portion of the lens and it becomes a macro lens for close-up focus and a simple way to achieve a shallow depth of field.

Telephoto Lens

The Padcaster 2x Telephoto Lens provides twice the magnification of the standard iPad lens’ field of view. The 58mm rear thread attaches directly to the Padcaster lens bracket, and you can use additional 62mm filters in front of the lens as well.

Padcaster LED Light

The Padcaster LED Light is a variable brightness, daylight balanced light with a surprisingly strong throw. It is rechargable and a charging cord is included in the storage bag. The Padcaster LED Light comes with an included Cold Shoe Adapter for mounting to the Padcaster frame.
