What to Do if You Need Help on an Assignment

If you are working on an assignment and have gotten confused or frustrated, there are some ways that you can seek out help. I recommend that you follow these steps:

  1. Look at the "Daily Agenda and Due Dates" page of this website and make sure that there isn't a handout or some additional information there that you are missing. It might also helpful to simply read through the assignment again to clarify what you are expected to do.
  2. Contact a friend from class and ask them about it.
  3. Look back at the "Daily Agenda and Due Dates" page of this website and see if it looks like we will be having some work time on the assignment in the next day or two of class. If so, you will likely have time to have your question answered during class. Come to class with a clear sense of what your question is and how to answer it.
  4. Have one of your parents or another adult read over the assignment with you. Try to clearly articulate what you are stumped on. Sometimes just saying what is challenging out loud leads you to the answer.
  5. Email me, Mr. McClain, at bmcclain@pps.net. I usually don't check my email at home, but I do check it the first thing on each school day. I will try to respond as soon as I see your email.
  6. Set up a time to come talk to me directly. Even though the building isn't open in the mornings, if you arrange it with me the day before, I can let you in between 8:00 and 8:15 in the morning to talk with you. If you get your questioned answered quickly, you can use the rest of the time until 8:40 to work on something in my classroom. I'm also available for a quick conversation after school most days.
