You know how video games are SO popular these days? Well, today we are going to go back in time to visit the MOST popular games of the century! 

1958-1960 (the first video game )

The  first video game officially ever made was “Tennis for Two” made by William Higinbotham. It was a simple game were players would go back and forth, hitting a ball from side to side. It was not released publicly but was officially crowned ”THE FIRST VIDEO GAME“ ever made.

1965-1975 (the early years)

There were many games made from 1965-1975 such as …

-Maze war: the first multiplayer shooting game.

-Magnavox Odyssey: the first video game (with console) to let people play at home.

But none as POPULAR as PONG (made in 1972)

-PONG: Pong is like a video game version of ping pong. Players move a paddle up and down on their side of the screen to hit a bouncing ball back and forth with the other player's paddle. The goal is to get the ball past the opponent's paddle to score a point, with the first player to reach a set number of points, like eleven, winning the game. Kind of like tennis for two! 

1980-2000 (the “peak” of games) 

Some of the most POPULAR and influential video games released between 1980 and 2000 include… 

-Pac-Man (1980)

-Donkey Kong (1981)

-Tetris (1984)

-Super Mario Bros (1985)

…and MANY more.

 Some say this was the PEAK (the best time) of video games as many people started playing games at this time.

FUN FACT!

In 1984, Tetris was reported as an “addictive game“, leading to the term Tetris Effect where people would get addicted to Tetris, leading to playing for unhealthy amounts of hours, leading to obsessive needs to win at the award winning game.

PAC-MAN!

Pac-Man is considered the most popular video game from the 1980s due to its massive impact on entertainment spawning a media phenomenon, attracting new audiences to arcades, and to this day, remaining a recognized term in popular gaming history.

2010-2025 (games today)

POPULAR games today include all-time best-sellers like…

MINECRAFT is a 3D sandbox video game that has no required goals to accomplish, allowing players a large amount of freedom in choosing how to play the game.

GTA (Grand Theft Auto) is a series of open-world, action-adventure video games where players assume the role of a criminal, navigate a fictionalized version of real-life cities, and complete missions that advance the overall crime-story plot

FORTNITE is an online video game by Epic Games, primarily known for its free-to-play, 100-player Battle Royale mode, where players compete to be the last one standing on a shrinking map after scavenging for weapons and resources.

Right now ROBLOX is really popular, with over 4.6 billion concurrent players.

STEAL A BRAINROT

 Steal a Brainrot is a 2025 multiplayer video game developed by SpyderSammy and released on Roblox. In it, players buy and steal Brainrots, characters based on the Italian brainrot meme which generate income over time. 

99 NIGHTS IN THE FOREST

"99 Nights in the Forest" is a Roblox game where players survive for 99 days in a forest (or more), managing resources and battling enemies like the deer and cultists while rescuing four children from an underground facility. The game is inspired by the 2023 true story of four children who survived for 40 days in the Amazon after a plane crash, which the game incorporates through a crash-landed plane and the need to find the children. WOW, that was a lot of GAMES! Over this generation, video games have evolved GREATLY since the 1950s and a lot of people have experienced countless fun and great moments with technology. So next time you play a video game, just remember; THE EVOLUTION OF VIDEO GAMES! 

99 Nights in the Forest

99 nights in the forest is a popular game on Roblox ,which is growing in visits and rating by the minute! This game was created by the group,Grandma’s Favourite Games,while the mobs that I have put pictures of are created by Grandma's Favourite Games (Deer), whilst the other 2 (ram and owl) have no specific creator! The aim of this horror game is to survive as many days as possible in the forest by making a campfire, finding resources and food and then go out to find all 4 of the missing children whilst trying to stay alive from the wolves, alpha wolves and bears and all the other monsters that come at night. You can also collect and make gears to help you find the children and defeat the mobs! It is not recommended that children under the age of 12 years old should play this game as it is scary and can cause shocks when the mobs pop up on your screen! I’m not saying it's a bad game but it can be scary! So, if you are under the age of 12 you should ask your parents about playing this game even before just trying it!
